Summer Institutes

SUMMER INSTITUTE REGISTRATION

Developed from courses that are already part of UCLA’s regular curriculum, Summer Institutes offer the breadth and depth of UCLA's academic rigor in an intensive, holistic format that allows you to share a unique hands-on learning experience. Upon completion, all courses that constitute each Summer Institute program’s curriculum will be listed on an official UCLA transcript.

Our Summer Institutes are open to students from around the country and the world , as well as UCLA students, and we invite you to come and study in a welcoming environment that appreciates diversity and global perspectives.

If you are an international student who would require a visa to participate in UCLA Summer Sessions, please note that not all Summer Institutes are eligible for an F-1 visa. Programs that do not meet F-1 visa eligibility are indicated with *. If you are interested in any of those programs, please be sure to consult your local US embassy/consulate for visa options prior to registering as an I-20 form may not be issued.

 

The FILM AND TELEVISION SUMMER INSTITUTE's Creative Producing track includes an internship component and is not open to international students. The program's all other tracks, however, are F-1 visa eligible.

 

International students who wish to enroll in the JUMPSTART SUMMER INSTITUTE: INTRODUCTION TO ARCHITECTURE must select the Architecture and Urban Design 10B & 103 track, totaling 11 units, to meet the minimum 8 unit enrollment requirement. The Architecture and Urban Design 103 track carries 6 units and does not meet the F-1 visa unit requirement.

 

Precollege Summer Institutes are designed for advanced high school students who wish to gain academically challenging college-level experience, while College/Professional Summer Institutes deliver instructions that go beyond the traditional classroom in architecture, film and television, management and more.

High school students who are 14 years of age or older by program start date may participate in our Precollege Summer Institutes. If you do not meet the age requirement but wish to participate in one of the programs, please contact us at institutes@summer.ucla.edu.

RETRIEVE REGISTRATION

If you have already submitted the registration form and wish to pay your deposit, upload files or make changes to your registration, you can simply retrieve your registration without having to fill out the registration form again.

You will need your five-digit registration number that was sent to your email address upon initial submission of the registration form. If you can't locate it, please contact us at institutes@summer.ucla.edu.

How to make payment of deposit before May 1

If you submitted the registration form online and want to pay the deposit to secure your spot before May 1,

 

  1. Click on the link "RETRIEVE REGISTRATION".
  2. Enter the five-digit registration number (numbers only).
  3. Enter the first name and the last name of the student.
  4. Provide the student's date of birth.
  5. Use the drop-down menu to select the program that the student has signed up for.
  6. Click on the link "Continue".
  7. Under the category "Options" click on the link "Pay Now".
  8. Make payment of deposit. Please note that for programs with instructor consent, you will not be able to make payment until your application has been approved by the instructor.
  9. Make certain that an E-mail of Confirmation has been received from our office (institutes@summer.ucla.edu) that verifies the transaction along with further instructions.
  10. Make your final payment on the Summer Sessions BruinBill account via MyUCLA.

How to make payment in full (for students who submitted the registration form after May 1)

If you submitted the registration form after May 1 and now want to make your full payment to complete your registration,

 

  1. Click on the link "RETRIEVE REGISTRATION".
  2. Enter the five-digit registration number (numbers only).
  3. Enter the first name and the last name of the student.
  4. Provide the student's date of birth.
  5. Use the drop-down menu to select the program that the student has signed up for.
  6. Click on the link "Continue".
  7. Under the category "Options", click on the link "Pay Now".
  8. Make payment in full. Please note that for programs with instructor consent, you will not be able to make payment until your application has been approved by the instructor.
  9. Make certain that an E-mail of Confirmation has been received from our office (institutes@summer.ucla.edu) that verifies the transaction along with further instructions.

How to upload files (for students who signed up for ACTING AND PERFORMANCE, ART, or DANCE/PERFORMING ARTS)

If you signed up for the ART or DANCE/PERFORMING ARTS SUMMER INSTITUTE and want to upload the required files to complete your registration,

 

  1. Click on the link "RETRIEVE REGISTRATION".
  2. Enter the five-digit registration number (numbers only).
  3. Enter the first name and the last name of the student.
  4. Provide the student's date of birth.
  5. Use the drop-down menu to select the program that the student has signed up for.
  6. Click on the link "Continue".
  7. Under the category "Options" click on the link "File Upload".
  8. For ACTING AND PERFORMANCE SUMMER INSTITUTE, only pdf files are accepted. Have the “Letter of Reference” (required) and the “CV” (optional) files ready and upload separately by clicking "Browse" to locate the file and then clicking "Upload File" each time.
  9. For ART SUMMER INSTITUTE, only jpg or jpeg files are accepted and image dimensions must be no smaller than 500 and no larger than 1024 pixels. Have all your four sample image files ready and upload "First Sample", "Second Sample", "Third Sample", and "Fourth Sample" separately by clicking "Browse" to locate the file and then clicking "Upload File" each time.
  10. For DANCE/PERFORMING ARTS SUMMER INSTITUTE, only pdf files are accepted. Upload "Instructor Recommendation" by clicking "Browse" to locate the file and then click "Upload File" to submit.
  11. Confirm that each sample is uploaded successfully with the statement "Your file was uploaded successfully. Uploading again will overwrite the existing file."
  12. Click on the link "Go Back".
  13. Make certain that an E-mail of Confirmation has been received from our office (institutes@summer.ucla.edu) that verifies your file upload.

How to switch programs

If you want to switch to a different program,

 

  1. Click on the link "RETRIEVE REGISTRATION".
  2. Enter the five-digit registration number (numbers only).
  3. Enter the first name and the last name of the student.
  4. Provide the student's date of birth.
  5. Use the drop-down menu to select the program that the student wishes to switch OUT of.
  6. Click on the link "Continue".
  7. Under the category "Options" on the left-hand side, click on the link "Switch My Program".
  8. Select the program you wish to switch into and complete the process

How to add another program before May 1

If you want to sign up for another program before May 1 in addition to the one you are currently registered for,

 

  1. Click on the link "RETRIEVE REGISTRATION".
  2. Enter the five-digit registration number (numbers only).
  3. Enter the first name and the last name of the student.
  4. Provide the student's date of birth.
  5. Use the drop-down menu to select the program that the student has signed up for.
  6. Click on the link "Continue".
  7. Under the category "Options" click on the link "Update My Registration".
  8. Review your current enrollment and mailing address information.
  9. Under the category "Add a New Program", view a list of the programs available.
  10. On the left-hand side, click on the box that corresponds to the program of choice one at a time.
  11. Click on the link "Make Changes".
  12. Make payment of deposit. Please note that for programs with instructor consent, you will not be able to make payment until your application has been approved by the instructor.
  13. Make certain that an E-mail of Confirmation has been received from our office (institutes@summer.ucla.edu) that verifies the transaction along with further instructions.
  14. Make your final payment on the Summer Sessions BruinBill account via MyUCLA.

How to add another program after May 1

If you want to sign up for another program after May 1 in addition to the one you are currently registered for,

 

  1. Send an email to institutes@summer.ucla.edu.
  2. Include in the email your five-digit registration number (numbers only).
  3. Include in the email the first name and the last name of the student.
  4. Indicate in the email the program you wish to drop and the new program you wish to switch into.
  5. Make your full payment. Please note that for programs with instructor consent, you will not be able to make payment until your application has been approved by the instructor.
  6. Make certain that an E-mail of Confirmation has been received from our office (institutes@summer.ucla.edu) that verifies the transaction along with further instructions.

How to cancel registration and enrollment

If you want to cancel your registration and withdraw from the program,

 

  1. Click on the link "RETRIEVE REGISTRATION".
  2. Enter the five-digit registration number (numbers only).
  3. Enter the first name and the last name of the student.
  4. Provide the student's date of birth.
  5. Use the drop-down menu to select the program that the student has signed up for.
  6. Click on the link "Continue".
  7. Under the category "Options", click on the link "Cancel My Registration".
  8. Review the Cancellation Policy. If you wish to proceed, click on the link "Yes, Drop me From the Program".
  9. Make certain that an E-mail of Confirmation has been received from our office (institutes@summer.ucla.edu) that verifies the transaction.

How to request a roommate
  • Retrieve your registration using your five-digit registration number.
  • Select “Update My Registration.”
  • In the program table, under the “Housing” column, enter the full name of the participant you wish to room with in the “Requested Roommate” textbox.
  • Scroll to the bottom and select “Save Changes.”
