WHO IS A US STUDENT?
UCLA is home to world-class academic and research programs, and its resources include extensive libraries, athletic facilities, and cultural events.
Working professionals, as well as students attending a university or community college, can participate in UCLA Summer Sessions in two ways:
- Individual UCLA Academic Courses; or
- Specialized Summer Institutes
If you can answer yes to any of the questions below, you are considered a U.S. student for our registration purposes:
- Are you a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, i.e., a Green Card holder?
- Are you an international student currently studying in the US and returning to the same school after the summer?
If you currently hold an F-1 visa and I-20 at another U.S. school AND plan to continue your studies at that school, you won't need to obtain an additional F-1 visa to attend UCLA Summer Sessions. There are no unit requirements and you won't be required to complete the I-20 request form or upload any documents.

During the summer, many academic courses that make up UCLA's regular curriculum are offered in two sessions, Session A and Session C . With over 1000 courses to choose from, including ONLINE COURSES, you will have an enriching summer, even if you can't travel to UCLA.
UCLA ONLINE COURSES offer you the opportunity to earn credit anytime, anywhere. UCLA online academic courses carry the same unit value and UCLA degree credit as on-campus courses, and transcripts do not indicate the course was online.
Whether you will be moving back home during the summer or working full time with inflexible hours, online courses provide an alternative solution to your academic needs.

Summer Institutes offer the breadth and depth of UCLA's academic rigor in an intensive, holistic format that allows you to share a unique learning experience.
