Business of Media, Entertainment, and Sports Summer Institute

Thank you for visiting the Business of Media, Entertainment, and Sports Summer Institute Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page! Here, you will find answers to questions that students and parents most commonly ask us specifically about this program.

Still have questions? Check out the general Summer Institutes FAQ page at https://www.summer.ucla.edu/faq/SummerInstitutes.

Are most students professionals in the field? Are students with little experience encouraged to apply?

The program varies on student experiences in the business of entertainment. We do receive some students with little to no experience in these industries. Sometimes we do get students that are in this field and looking to expand their knowledge in the business of entertainment, media, and sports. Students are not required to have experience but do express interest in these industries.

Can I change the courses once the institute has already begun?

You have one week to change courses along with an approval from the instructor.

What are example Field Experience Day companies visited in the past?

Examples of companies visited during the Field Experence Day include the Dodgers, Disney, Sony, Fender, AD Agency, Edwards Technology, and YouTube Studios 72 & Sunny.

Is a laptop required?

Bringing a laptop to class is up to the individual student. It is not required in the classroom, however, there are capstone projects and group projects where a laptop may be most helpful and convenient.
