Traditional Animation Summer Institute

Thank you for visiting the Film and Television Summer Institute - Traditional Animation track Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page! Here, you will find answers to questions that students and parents most commonly ask us specifically about this program.

Still have questions? Check out the general Summer Institutes FAQ page at https://www.summer.ucla.edu/faq/SummerInstitutes.

Can I take more than two tracks?

Students may only enroll in more than one track if the program dates do not overlap with each other. For example, a student may take Traditional Animation in Session A, and then take TV Writing in Session C.

What background should applicants have? Can beginners apply?

Applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply to the Film and Television Summer Institute. The Traditional Animation track is intended for beginning and intermediate levels.

If I took a course similarly listed in the past, can I still take this institute for credit?

Students will need to check with their academic counselor to see if these courses will count towards their degree. Courses may fulfill a major or minor requirement, or count as upper-division course credit.

Do I have to be a film major?

No, students from all different majors are welcome.

I have an internship. Can I still take this Summer Institute?

Internships are not part of the curriculum for the Traditional Animation track and students with outside commitments that conflict with the program dates would not be eligible to enroll. We would strongly encourage him/her to apply for the Summer Institute another year when they have the time to focus on this intensive immersion experience.

Is a laptop required?

No, a laptop is not required.
