Payment Information
Summer Deadlines
Please review the Key Academic Dates and Deadlines page to confirm all summer deadlines by program type and session date, which includes the payment and refund deadlines.
Fee Information
- Fees are calculated based on student type and total units; there are no additional out-of-state fees for domestic students. Please use the Fee Calculator for a fee estimate.
- Residential charges are assessed separately by UCLA Housing; UCLA Summer Sessions does NOT manage housing or update UCLA Housing contracts.
- UCLA students who are dismissed, withdrawn, or graduated prior to the summer are assessed visiting student fees, including the $350 registration fee.
- Tuition and fee amounts represent currently proposed or approved amounts and are subject to change.
- Tuition and fees are set regardless of method/modality of instruction and will not be refunded if modality changes.
- SRP-99 courses estimate at $193.69 vs. SRP-199 courses are charged as normal Summer Courses ($279 per unit).
-
- The registration fee for visiting students is a required fee to receive a UCLA University ID (UID) number and enroll in Summer Sessions. The registration fee is NOT the full cost of tuition. Please use the Fee Calculator for a fee estimate.
-
- A $175 processing fee is assessed when UCLA students drop ALL Summer Courses to zero units starting April 15 onward without re-enrolling.
- The $350 registration fee (and 2.75% service charge if paying by credit card) is non-refundable at all times.
Overaward charges are from the Financial Aid office requesting the money back that you did not use for your dropped Summer Course(s). This is a charge because you were awarded aid but have not yet paid it back after dropping the course.
The refund from dropping a Summer Course prior to the Refund Deadline is disbursed directly to the student and it is their responsibility to pay their outstanding summer charges on BruinBill with that money which will settle the overaward charge.
Once your payment is made in full for Summer 2025 on BruinBill, the financial hold will automatically be removed. For any additional questions on this charge, contact the Financial Aid office directly at 310-206-0400.
How to Pay
To confirm specific dates and deadlines, including the refund deadline and drop deadline, review the Summer Deadlines page.
Summer fees are charged on a payment platform called BruinBill which is accessible on MyUCLA under the “Finances and Jobs” tab. Your summer balance will automatically be updated after each enrollment change (adds or drops). Check your BruinBill after each enrollment change to verify changes in your balance before the payment deadline.
You are NOT relieved of financial responsibility if you fail to attend classes, reverse your credit card charges, stop payment on your registration check, or if the bank does not honor your check or credit card payment. We do NOT offer auto pay or payment plans for summer fees. Failure to pay by the deadline will result in being dropped.
Please use the instructions below to submit an online payment using a VISA, MasterCard, Discover, AMEX credit card or electronic check (e-check).
- Sign-in to MyUCLA (Logon and password required)
- On the main menu, select “Finances and Jobs,” then “BruinBill”
- Once on the BruinBill page, select “Make a Payment” at the top
All credit card payments are subject to a 2.75% non-refundable service charge per transaction. This charge is assessed by Higher One, Inc. and may not be refunded under any circumstances. No service fees are applied to e-check payments.
Please review the Key Academic Dates and Deadlines page for payment and refund deadlines.

Travelex payments allow you to lock into an exchange rate with your bank. If your currency is not listed, you may request that your bank make the transfer in US dollars.
Please review the Key Academic Dates and Deadlines page for payment and refund deadlines.
Please note that foreign currency payments can take up to 2 weeks to process. It is recommended that students make payment as soon as possible, and at least 2 weeks prior to the payment deadline to ensure that the payment is posted, and to avoid being dropped from classes for non-payment.
Visiting students should allow up to 24 hours for payment of the registration fee to be reflected on your BruinBill. Do NOT pay the $350/$175 fee twice.
Once your enrollment is complete, proceed to payment. Whenever you make any changes to your enrollment, such as adding, dropping, or switching a course, be sure to check your BruinBill to verify changes to your balance.
You are not relieved of financial responsibility if you fail to attend classes, reverse your credit card charges, stop payment on your registration check, or if the bank does not honor your check or credit card payment.

Enrollment Policies
Attendance at UCLA Summer Sessions is limited to duly enrolled students. No auditing is allowed during the summer except for the UCLA Senior Scholars members as stipulated in the program.
Late registration may not be used to justify inadequate performance in a course.
If attendance is an academic requirement established by the instructor or stipulated in the participant agreement, students may be dropped because of excessive absences.
International students attending UCLA Summer Sessions on a F-1 visa must complete mandatory orientation and check-in requirements prior to attendance and maintain full-time enrollment. Failure to comply with F-1 regulations may result in the termination of F-1 status and loss of future eligibility to enter the U.S.
Fees must be paid prior to attending any course and program. In the event of late enrollment, fees are due immediately. Failure to pay by the deadline may result in any combination of the following: enrollment cancellations, placement of holds on student records, delinquent fee assessment, and collection activities.
Students may drop their enrolled courses and programs prior to completing the final requirements for the course/program (e.g., the final exam or paper). Once the final requirements are completed, however, no course may be dropped or removed from the student’s record.
Enrollment may be canceled by the University due to reasons including, but not limited to, payment delinquency or changes to courses and programs.
Refund Policy
In the event of enrollment cancellation, the University is not responsible for any consequential loss or expenses incurred as a result. Certain fees are refundable only if students formally cancel their enrollment by the refund deadline according to the applicable enrollment cancellation procedures, or if enrollment is canceled by the University.
The following fees are refundable in the event of:
- Enrollment Cancellation: course unit fees, program fees, and Summer Institute or SCIP residential plan fees that are applicable
- Withdrawal (i.e., dropping ALL courses and programs): referenda fees, service fee, IEI fee, document fee, iStart fee, summer health insurance, BruinCare, course unit fees, program fees, and Summer Institute or SCIP residential plan fee that are applicable if dropped by the refund deadline.
The registration fee for non-UCLA students and the processing fee for UCLA students are non-refundable regardless of the time of withdrawal. Students are financially held liable for all fees associated with their enrollment activities after the refund deadline, i.e., fees for the canceled or added enrollment after the refund deadline.
UCLA students who have been awarded financial aid for summer enrollment will be subject to financial aid billing if switching sessions and/or taking fewer units than indicated on their summer financial aid application.
Students with unavoidable, extenuating circumstances may petition for a refund exception for a formally dropped course or program by providing a written statement with supporting documentation. Please email petition@summer.ucla.edu to request a refund petition form. Submission of a petition does not guarantee that a refund will be granted.
Refunds
The refund deadline and the drop deadline are not the same for most Summer Courses. Therefore, it is possible to drop a course and still be held financially liable.
After the refund deadline, you are financially liable for the full cost of your course or program and any associated summer fees.
Refer to the refund policy before dropping. Refunds may take 1-3 weeks to process back to the same method that you paid with i.e. credit card, Bruin Direct, or check.

UCLA students who have been awarded financial aid for summer enrollment will be subject to financial aid billing if switching sessions and/or taking fewer units than indicated on their summer financial aid application. If financial aid does not cover the full cost of attendance, the student will be responsible for paying the remaining balance out-of-pocket.
Students with unavoidable, extenuating circumstances may petition for a refund exception for a formally dropped course or program by providing a written statement with supporting documentation. Please email petition@summer.ucla.edu to request a refund petition form. Submission of a petition does not guarantee that a refund will be granted.
Students who are entitled to a cash refund from the UCLA Summer Sessions Office may receive the refund in one of the following three ways within 1-3 weeks.
- Credit Card: Payments made with a credit card will be returned back to the credit card that made the original payment*.
- BruinDirect: BruinDirect is a free and fast way for students to receive refunds directly to a U.S. checking or savings account. If making payment using a U.S. checking or saving account, students are strongly encouraged to sign up for BruinDirect on BruinBill.
- Check Refund: For payment made using a method other than credit card, the refund will be issued as a paper check and mailed to the mailing address on file unless the student is signed up for BruinDirect.
*Refunds CANNOT be sent to a credit card that is different from the card used for original payment. Please reach out to UCLA Student Accounts for more details.
